We stayed in a suite and were highly pleased at how spacious and luxurious the room was! Our room provided a sanctuary amidst the bustling city. Prepare to be captivated by the allure of the Grand Hotel Palace and let it be the perfect base for your Roman adventure.

Day 1: Explore the Ancient Heart of Rome

Day 1 will take you through the ancient heart of Rome, where you will explore Rome’s iconic historical sites.

First up on the Roman itinerary we recommend booking a guided tour that will take you on an ancient journey through the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and the Pantheon. Most of the tours available will include all three sites and will typically take about 2-3 hours to complete. On your way to the tour, make sure to stop by one of the hundreds of coffee shops for a shot of espresso and pastry to get you ready for the busy day ahead!

Colosseum

Located in the heart of Rome, the Colosseum is the largest amphitheater ever built. This majestic amphitheater, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, is a true architectural masterpiece that has withstood the test of time. Constructed over 2,000 years ago, it was originally designed to host grand spectacles, including gladiatorial contests, animal hunts, and theatrical performances.

As you approach the Colosseum, its colossal presence commands attention.

Stepping inside the Colosseum is like stepping back in time. Imagine the thunderous cheers and roars of the crowds as gladiators engaged in fierce combat within the arena, or as exotic animals were unleashed into the arena’s center. Visiting the Colosseum today offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in history, to witness the legacy of the Roman Empire, and to appreciate the architectural genius that has inspired countless structures throughout the centuries.

Roman Forum

Step into the ancient heart of Rome as you step foot into the Roman Forum. With its grand temples, majestic basilicas, and remnants of political and social structures, the Roman Forum was once the beating heart of the Roman Empire. As you wander through its historic ruins, you can almost hear the echoes of ancient voices, envisioning the grand ceremonies, political debates, and everyday hustle and bustle that once filled this vibrant marketplace.

Pantheon

Standing tall for over two millennia, the Pantheon is a must-visit on your Rome itinerary. The grandeur of its massive dome, supported by towering columns, evokes a sense of awe. The oculus is a perfectly round opening in the center of the dome which casts a mesmerizing beam of light that illuminates the interior.

Explore the Town

Next up on the Rome itinerary, we recommend exploring the bustling city! As the day unfolds, you’ll discover hidden gems tucked away in narrow alleyways and stumble upon quaint piazzas brimming with life. And of course, no visit to Rome would be complete without savoring authentic Italian cuisine, like yummy pasta and gelato!

Ascend the Iconic Spanish Steps

Ascend the iconic Spanish Steps, a sweeping staircase that gracefully connects the Piazza di Spagna and the Trinità dei Monti church. This renowned landmark offers a picturesque setting where locals and visitors alike gather to relax, socialize, and soak in the vibrant atmosphere of Rome’s bustling streets.

Toss a Coin into the Trevi Fountain

Don’t forget to toss a coin into the crystal-clear waters of the Trevi Fountain. According to tradition, this will ensure your return to this eternal city.

Try Authentic Italian Pizza

Nestled in the charming streets of Rome near the Trevi fountain, Pinsitaly is a hidden gem with delicious and authentic Italian pizza. With its cozy and inviting atmosphere, this family-owned restaurant offers an authentic dining experience that will transport you straight to the heart of Italy. We decided on the salami pizza which was a 10/10. Molto delizioso!

Day 2: Visit the Vatican City

On Day 2, our adventure continues with a visit to the Vatican City, a spiritual and artistic haven.

When visiting Vatican City, it is important to adhere to a dress code that shows respect for the religion. Both men and women are required to dress modestly, covering their shoulders and knees. Avoid wearing shorts, miniskirts, sleeveless tops, and low-cut or transparent clothing. It is recommended to opt for clothing that is conservative. By following the dress code, you can ensure a smooth and respectful visit to Vatican City.

St. Peter’s Basilica

Be prepared to be awestruck by the magnificent St. Peter’s Basilica, home to priceless masterpieces and breathtaking architecture. As you approach this iconic basilica, the colossal dome dominates the skyline. Step inside to behold the breathtaking interior adorned with intricate mosaics, majestic sculptures, and awe-inspiring works of art, including Michelangelo’s renowned masterpiece, the Pietà.

Vatican Museums

Next up on the Rome itinerary is the the Vatican Museums, where ancient treasures and Renaissance masterpieces await. From the moment you step foot into these hallowed halls, you’ll be transported to a world of unparalleled beauty. Marvel at the renowned frescoes of the Sistine Chapel, wander through the Raphael Rooms adorned with exquisite paintings, and immerse yourself in the vast array of sculptures, tapestries, and artifacts that grace the galleries.

Splurge on a Michelin-starred Roman Meal

As the sun sets, it’s time to indulge in a delightful Roman dinner at the One Michelin-starred Glass Hostaria. Located in one of Rome’s charming neighborhoods, Trastevere, Glass Hostaria is a culinary gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. We chose to splurge on one the meticulously crafted tasting menus and we were not disappointed!
